COVID-19 Update: How We Are Serving and Protecting Our Clients
WE ARE OPEN and available to help you with your Massachusetts criminal case or answer your questions about COVID-19.
The Massachusetts Trial Court has issued a "standing order," (legalese for 'temporary') suspending almost all criminal cases in the Massachusetts District Court, Superior Court and courts of appeal until further notice. This means that the court is closed, you are not expected to appear in court and you will not have any penalty or warrant for not appearing in court until this pandemic is resolved. This includes almost all cases.
Only new arrests and ongoing trials will be heard. Other cases can be designated as "emergences," but only after the trial court judge and the chief judge agree and order an emergency hearing. ASK YOUR LAWYER if your case can be considered as an emergency.
Criminal defense lawyers are working on motions to have clients who are held in custody released while this is being resolved. We will keep you posted on those motions.
PLEASE stay healthy and safe and remember to watch out for our most vulnerable, older friends, family and strangers. They depend on you to be smart and careful.
