East Brookfield District Court

The East Brookfield District Court serves a broad group of small towns in central and western Worcester County, a rural catchment along the Route 9 and Route 20 corridors. The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office prosecutes its docket of OUI, drug, motor vehicle, and domestic violence matters, most of them first offenses. Attorney Joe Serpa prepares each as a case to be ended at the earliest stage the facts allow.

Some of the strongest defenses end a case entirely rather than settling it. The firm’s companion page explains how criminal cases get dismissed in the Massachusetts district and municipal courts.

Location and Access. The East Brookfield District Court, 544 East Main St., East Brookfield, MA 01515, sits off Route 9 with parking at the courthouse. The court’s phone is (508) 885-6305.

Communities Served. Barre, Brookfield, East Brookfield, Hardwick, Leicester, New Braintree, North Brookfield, Oakham, Paxton, Rutland, Spencer, Warren, and West Brookfield.

OUI and Motor Vehicle Cases. Route 9 and Route 20 supply the OUI and motor vehicle calendar, defended on the stop and the device records, with the four-day citation rule in play.

Drug and Domestic Violence Calendars. The court carries drug matters litigated at the suppression stage and domestic violence and 209A sessions, each defended on its elements with self-defense raised where the client was not the aggressor.

The Clerk-Magistrate Hearing. A large share of the court’s business begins at the show cause hearing under G.L. c. 218, § 35A, where a denial ends the matter with no record.
